Dr. JRM: Buenos días Ivonne. Bienvenidos todos.
Ivonne: Bueno, ¿de qué se trata esto de SkinPen®? Porque vi la fotografías y parece milagroso.
Dr. JRM: El SkinPen® es una tecnología que esta FDA (Food and Drug Administration) aprobada específicamente para la piel, para mejor la textura de la piel, para mejorar cicatrices, para mejorar líneas profunda y líneas finas en pieles de personas de edades avanzadas y de edad joven, el paciente joven que tiene cicatrices sobre todo de acné. Es no sólo un tratamiento que se hace en la piel de la cara; se hace también en la piel de los brazos y piernas y el cuerpo.
Aquí vemos el tratamiento. Consiste en pequeñas micro agujas que se van pasando a través de la piel, van creando unos canales pequeños. Esos canales provocan que las células naturales de la piel que producen el colágeno el colágeno que conocemos como el colágeno organizado (tipo 1) que es el que le da buena textura y tensión a la piel y la levanta, se forme, se recree.
Ivonne: O sea, que es natural.
Dr. JRM: Sí. El paciente es el que responde a esta tecnología y esto hace que la piel esté permeable. Permeable quiere decir que está abierta a que uno le pueda poner sueros encima y estos nutran la piel, como se hace justo en el mismo tratamiento.
Ivonne: ¿Cuántos tratamientos son necesarios para ver algún tipo de diferencia?
Dr. JRM: Depende de cual sea la condición del paciente, si un paciente lo que quiere mejorar es la textura de la piel. Aquí por ejemplo, (para) un paciente de edad un poquito más avanzada que quiere líneas profundas de la piel, 5 o 6 tratamientos espaciados en 4 semanas es suficiente para este resultado.
Tratamientos, por ejemplo, como éste donde son líneas mas profundas en un área difícil como es la frente, requiere 4 tratamientos espaciados cada 4 semanas y este es el resultado que puede obtener el paciente.
También, pacientes que padecen con cicatrices como éstas que son difíciles de tratar, como el acné, tienen este resultado en 5 sesiones después de haberse tratado con el SkinPen®. Aquí vemos también un paciente joven con cicatrices crónicas eritematosas, ya de acné, tratado con esta misma tecnología y como dije anteriormente también pacientes que presentan estrías en algunas partes del cuerpo.
Lo mas interesante de esto (Ivonne) es que esto equivale a un laser que se usa para tratar la piel, pero que no tiene el tiempo de recuperación que la mayor parte de las veces tienen los láseres. Esto se realiza en la oficina. El paciente va a experimentar un enrojecimiento que es temporero (por 24 horas); al día siguiente se coloca protector solar y al tercer día se maquilla y va a sus funciones normales.
Ivonne: ¿Ese proceso duele?
Dr. JRM: Este proceso es bien poco doloroso, se coloca crema en la piel que es anestésico y el paciente se relaja por unos 20-30 minutos, mientras que dura el tratamiento y se realiza.

Dr. JRM: Good morning Ivonne. Welcome everyone.
Ivonne: Well, what is this in SkinPen® all about? Because I saw the pictures and it seems miraculous.
JRM: SkinPen® is an FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved technology, developed specifically to improve skin’s texture, scars, deep lines, and fine lines on people of advanced age and even young patients, especially with acne scars. This treatment can be performed not only on the face, but also in arms, legs, and other areas of the body.
We can see here the treatment being performed. It consists of small micro needles that are passing through the skin, wherein small channels are created. These channels cause the natural skin cells to produce collagen known as organized collagen (type 1) that is the one that gives good texture and tension to the skin and lifts it; formed, re-created.
Ivonne: In other words, it is natural.
Dr. JRM: Yes. The patient is the one who responds to this technology, which makes the skin permeable. Permeable means it is open so serum can be applied on it, which in turn nourishes the skin, as it is done during treatment.
Ivonne: How many treatments are needed to notice any type of change?
Dr. JRM: It depends on the patient’s condition, if what the patient wants is to improve skin’s texture. Here is an example of a patient of advanced age who wants deeper skin lines, so 5 or 6 treatments spaced at 4 weeks are sufficient for this result.
Treatments in certain patients, such as this one, where the lines are deeper in a difficult area, the forehead, require 4 spaced treatments, every 4 weeks, obtaining the result that you see here.
Also, patients suffering with scars like these that are difficult to treat, such as acne, will have this result after having been treated with SkinPen® in 5 sessions. Here we can also see a young patient with chronic erythematous scars, and acne, treated with the same technology and as mentioned earlier also patients who have stretch marks on some parts of the body.
The most interesting part of this (Ivonne) is that this is the equivalent of a laser that is used to treat skin, but does not have the recovery time that most laser treatments require. This is done at the office. The patient will experience a temporary redness (for 24 hours); the next day sunscreen is applied, and on the third day makeup can be applied and the patient can return to the normal daily routine.
Ivonne: Does this hurt?
Dr. JRM: There is very little pain in this process, a topical anesthetic cream is applied on the skin, and the patient relaxes for about 20-30 minutes while the treatment is being performed.
