Telemundo Telenoticias: Ultherapy (December 3, 2014)

Ivonne:
Friends, a new technology promises to rejuvenate your face’s appearance without surgery. Dr. José Raul Montes is with us today. Good Morning. Welcome.

Dr. JRM:
Good morning Ivonne and good morning to all viewers.

Ivonne:
It is hard to believe. How does Ultherapy work?

Dr. JRM:
Well, the word Ultherapy sounds complicated, but it really is ultrasound, ultrasound energy. It is the only technology (Ivonne) – and what is really important- that is FDA-[Federal Drug Administration] approved to lift the skin of the face, neck and chest area.
Ultherapy is a technology that deposits energy in deep layers under the skin, stimulating collagen regeneration.
This new collagen lifts and improves the patient’s skin, it provides better definition of the bony structures, the jaw, and skin’s contours.

Ivonne:
When can one see changes?

Dr. JRM:
Changes can be seen almost immediately, but the best effect is noticeable usually within three months of treatment.

Ivonne:
In reality, does this substitute or delay a possible surgery?

Dr. JRM:
I believe that the introduction of this technology to the patient who is contemplating surgery is an advantage, especially for young patients who are not ready or do not need surgery.
As we can see in these examples, these patients have better definition in the jaw, neck area and cheekbones. This is a gradual lifting of the skin.
The patient will notice this at three months and it continues to work up to six months.

Ivonne:
How long will the result last? Once you already have the full effect, how long is it supposed to last?

Dr. JRM:
It has been proven that the newly-produced collagen will last a full year.

Ivonne:
Wow, that is impressive!

Dr. JRM:
After this, the patient (obviously we all continue to change) can get some touch ups. The interesting thing about this technology is that the patients can get it done, and return to their normal daily routine because there is no recovery period (downtime).

Ivonne:
Does this apply in all cases or are there cases where surgery is inevitable? Do they then require an evaluation?

Dr. JRM:
Well, we have to consider that if the patient is a clear candidate for a neck surgery, facelift, etc., it does not replace the procedure.
However, it is an alternative for patients who are not yet surgery candidates, who only want to look better, or for those patients who even though are candidates for a more invasive surgery, they decide not to undergo such procedure.
They want to look better -refreshed- and do not want to take time off to recover. The other interesting thing about it is that, despite being the first FDA-approved technology for the face and neck, and also for the chest area -what is called the décolletage- other uses are in the works, such as the arms, the thighs and the lower back or buttocks.

Ivonne:
Well, it is very interesting. Doctor, thank you very much. It is important that the public know that evaluations are needed before undergoing treatments. Thank you for joining us.

Dr. JRM:
My pleasure.
